“If I could escape, recreate a place as my own world....”

Gwen Stefani’s second solo album since No Doubt starts off with a knock off from the Sound of Music in her song “Wind It Up”. Personally, it’s not one of my favourites, I just don’t think it goes with all the other melodies and rhythms that she put with it. It’s all about dancing and letting the beat wind you up, teasing all the guys. Songs like “Orange County Girl” and “The Sweet Escape” are catchy and nice to listen to. Although they are far from reality, everyone can dream, right? (“I'm just an Orange County Girl, living in an extraordinary world”) I mean, not every one lives in California, has a perfect body and a perfect life, only having to worry about writing, singing and dancing and getting Grammys. “Early Winter,” “U Started It,” and “Breakin’ Up” are about dealing with the confusion of break up. “4 In The Morning” is songs about love, taking the lead in the relationship, setting standards, like “and all I know is, you've got to give me everything, nothing less ‘cause you know I’d give you all of me” to find a true love, and make it worth the fight. “Now That You Got it” and “Yummy,” songs about taking the lead in the relationship, where she sounds demanding. “Wonderful Life,” sings about remembering her first love, “You were the first to want me, the first to love me, the first to need me, who was the last to know you? The last to love you? The last to hold you?” and thanking him for the good time she had. Gwen Stefani really knows how to get you dancing, with upbeat tracks and flowy rhythms, like “Don’t Get It Twisted,” “Now That You Got It,” and “Breakin’ Up.” She adds her own style, trying new circus-like melodies and crazy instrumentals.
