After a series of events, which shall remain unwritten as to not spoil the movie, Kale, a teenaged boy who has had a hard past year, is sentenced to house arrest. While in his room, Kale is doing nothing productive as he’s not allowed to leave his house (the band on his ankle will flash red and summon the police) so his mom cuts him off of his T.V. and computer. With nothing better to do, Kale ends up observing the neighbourhood through his binoculars out the house windows.
Doing this, he keeps tabs on the 3 young boys who like to prank him, his neighbour, Mr. Turner, and his new, attractive neighbour, Ashley. Kale and his friend Ronnie spend quite some time watching Ashley, and when she notices, she comes over and the 3 of them begin to hang out. All is innocent until Kale sees on the news and in the newspaper that there is a killer on the loose. He drives a blue mustang that has a dent. This just happens to suit the description of Mr. Turner’s car, so Kale notices one night.
At first Ashley and Ronnie aren’t convinced about what Kale thinks to be true could be true. They think he’s delusional from watching people all the time, and that his imagination has gone too far. But eventually, the 3 friends come together and begin researching and plotting ways to find out if Mr. Turner is the alleged killer. Each night they record his doings and look through his windows to see what he’s up to. When suspicious actions occur at Mr. Turner’s house, Kale, Ronnie and Ashley dive deeper into finding out the truth. However, they have to be careful as they suspect that Mr. Turner has seen them watching.
There are a lot of suspenseful scenes, and the music is perfect to suit the mood. The lighting was very well done to match the aspect of the situation - whether humorous or thrilling. The movie had me wanting to not look but at the same time wanting to look as to not miss what was coming next. The suspenseful scenes kept a lot of us who were viewing the movie at the edges of our seats. All the characters, even the minor ones did an excellent job and kept the movie running pretty seamlessly.
I would recommend this movie to those who enjoyed, or would like a movie more thrilling than, Red Eye.
