Sigh... Yet another sequel by Disney..... Although I must say, this one was rather well done. One drawback was the fact that no conclusions were drawn from all the plots created during the 2 and a half hours of viewing time (some say it’s Disney’s way of making another grab for your wallet).
Many complications arise in the film. First off, the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow owes a debt to Davy Jones, devil of the sea. It has come time to repay the debt, unless Jack can conjure up 100 souls in order to save his own, or of course, he can get the key to the chest containing Jones’ alive and beating heart.
William Turner and Elizabeth Swann have been taken prisoners in jail, for helping Jack Sparrow, if you can recall from ‘Curse of the Black Pearl,’ escape from his death penalty. Will will be set free, along with Elizabeth, if he can hunt down Captain Jack and claim his compass for the East India Trading Company.
Elizabeth escapes from jail, with her father’s help and is on the hunt for her fiancé, Will when she finds Jack, who has sent Will as one of his souls for Jones. This is where things get really complicated. Will meets his dad, who is one of Davy Jones’ crew on the Flying Dutchman and together they work to get the key needed to unlock Davy’s chest, which is what Jack is after. Will, Jack, along with 2 wacky pirates, Elizabeth’s ex-fiancé (Commodore James Norrington) and the crew of the Flying Dutchman all battle for the key, and the chest.
Many sneaky actions are taken by the characters in order to get what they want, adding intrigue to the story line. There are many suspenseful situations and excellent fight scenes. Davy’s crew is pretty gruesome looking, but if you can handle watching the Orcs from “The Lord of the Rings,” these guys will seem tame.
Both ‘Dead Man’s Chest’ and the 3rd Pirates movie were filmed at the same time, so I look forward to seeing the resolution of ‘Dead Man’s Chest.’
